Well it was another great ultimate week end in Leipzig. After warming up on Thursday by taking a bike ride from Dresden to Leipzig, we participated in the Reformation-Day Tournement on Friday in Leipzig. Saturday morning marked the start of the actual Novembernebel indoor frisbee tournement. We started out by blowing out the usually quite good Terrible Monkies from Prague. I think they arrived in Leipzig around 3 a.m. and needed to relax with a few bottles of Vodka afterwards. This really showed through in their Playing! Anyway, our next game was against Marburg, which is a really strong Team. Even though they didn't have their A-Team present, their women were very strong players, which is important for a Coed tournement. Anyway, It was a very exiting and well played game and we won in the end 9:6! We had to travel across Leipzig for our next game against the DJs, and due to some confussion in the time-plan, we arrived exactly when the game was to start! After a wobbly start, we ended up handling the typical DJ-Zone with alot of handling and eased out a 11:4 win! Untill now we were undefeated, and managed to be the pool winner of the first round. The other pool winners were Leipzig Feuer, Endzonis, and Blindfische. We headed back to the collosal sport hall across town to start the next round. In our second round pool of 4 were Zluta Zimnice, Leipzig Feuer, and Marburg. We took our win against Marburg to the second round and our first game was against Zluta Zimnice (Yellow Fever) from Prague. We did not expect such a battle, but we just could not move the disc forward against them. Due to 5 full court overhead points to Mathias in a row, we kept the game close. In the end, however, their very stron defense prevailed and they beat us 7:8.
That was our last game of the day, so we headed for the showers and celebrated a great day of ultimate with champaigne under the shower! We found a cool restaraunt with a massage-seat where you could get oxygen therapy and watch peaceful fish in an aquarium while sipping on a cool pilsner. The best part was the all you can eat salad buffet, although the ostrich steak was suppurb. I wonder if that was one of the osteriches I saw on my bike tour? Anyway, we headed for the party, which was held in a club by the sport hall. What can I say? Decent music, good dancing, cheap drinks, and a great mood! As a person known to fall asleap before the party starts, I am pretty proud of myself for partying untill 3 a.m! The rest of my team stayed untill the end: Drehst'n Deckel wins the Party!
Sunday was a great weather day, so I took time to take some Fall pictures of Leipzig on my way our first game of the morning. We were pit against Leipzig Feuer, which reminded us of last week in Magdeburg as we lost to Leipzig Aufbau Ost Sunday morning 2:12. I'll admitt that the team wasn't quite as strong this week, but we still battled hard and lonfg to pull out a very satisfying 9:7 victory. This put us ahead of Marburg and Leipzig at place 2 in our pool. In the semi-final we had to play the 1st place team in the other pool: Endzonis-Rostock. We head a large mental brain fart and played like the Scheibenkleister. The game was pitiful and we lost 2:12. Seeing as how Zluta Zimnice lost their semi-final to Gronical Dizzynes from Groningen Holland, we were placed against them once again in the game for 3rd place. It was simmillar to our first game against them, except we forgot to throw overheads to Mathias. With about 10 minutes to go, we were down 2:8. We pushed our mental restart buttons and struggeld out a half-way respectable result: 6:10. Drehst'n Deckel finishes 4th out of 16 in Leipzig!
The final of Endzonis against Gronical Dizzyness was a spectacle! At halftime in the game to 13 points, Groningen was leading 7:6. Rostock dominated the next 7 points to go ahead 8:12, one point away from Novembernebel victory. The dutch made it very exciting by bringing it to a 12:12 tie! In the end, the Endzonis got their last point, and finished as tournement champions in an amazing final. To top off the week end, Drehst'n Deckel was voted the most spiritted team and won the Spirit of the Game award!
