Ultimate Frisbee Tournement in Hannover: Sommerglühen

9.-10. August, 2003

This tournement just might have been my last outdoor tournement with Drehst'n Deckel, and I really wanted to go out with style. We started by loosing part of the catalytic converter underneath Carsten's car. Now that's style!

We pretty much swept through the day without much trouble. We played a loose zone, and hardly anybody could accomplish anything against it. Only Schleudertrauma seemed to be succseful against it, but we learned and adjusted fast. In the end we had our 4th undefeated day of the season! Afterwards we found a nice lake and chilled out before dinner. I had also played with the Moolunken (the Farmers from Lüneburg had come in the place of Halle, so Katarina and I helped them out) in 4 games, so I was really tired. I barely made it to my sleeping bag under the stars after dinner. The rest had a good time at the party.

The new day started with a game that we knew was going to be hard. The Disc Devils from Tente in Holland were undefeated and had really blown out most teams. We played our zone against them and it seamed to work. We were behind for quite some time but brought it up to 7:7 as time ran out. In the decisive point, we came through to make it 8:7 for us! This was definately a big achievement for us.
In the next game, I decided to play with the Moolunken against Dresden. I was sure they would win anyway, and they did. That brought us to the final. The only question was who would be our opponent. We were worried that we would have to play against the Blindfische, who had stollen Jo from us. They were undefeated. We watched the deciding game against Leipzig who was also undefeated. We were hoping for Leipzig, and they won. They only had to beat 4-5 Leudde to make to the final. The 4-5 Leudde had already lost twice, so we did not expect leipzig to loose. They lost. Infact, because of a 3-way comparison, they finished behind the Blindfische and 4-5 Leudde made it to the final. We definately did not expect that.
We found ourselves in a final for the 3rd time this year. It was to be played to 13 points in the uper hot sun. It started out bad for us and we went down 0:2. We picked it back up and made it really exiting to 5:5. All of the sudden 4-5 Leudde made 3 points in a row to make it 5:8. We called a time out, but it didn't help. Before we knew it we had a mental collapse and lost our basic skills while our opponent handeld there way to a 7:12. We tried to go on, and even had a very exiting poit to make it 8:12. In the end the mixed team from Braunschweig and Hannover prevailed 8:13. We finished 2nd. A result which was very satisfying for Drehst'n Deckel!

b>In other news: The Halle/Lüneburg/Dresden team (Moolunken) ended up loosing to Leipzig in our final game to finish 6th and Leipzig 5th. Jo from Drehst'n played with the Blindfische and they finished behind the Disc Devils at 4th place. Panischer Osten won the Spirit of the Game, and Pempelfort won the Beer Race, which included eating a rolled up fish thing (Rollmops!).
