Ultimate Tournement in Leipzig: Junimond

21./22. June, 2003

After a weekend without ultimate, it was definately time to play again. That's why four of us from Dresden went to play pick up at a coed tournement in Leipzig last weekend. Together with some other spirited players (mostly from Leipzig) we played as Dresden and Friends. We had some good games and some not so good games, but I think they were all fun. They were games played to 13 points on a windy day, so some lasted very long. We played 13:11 against Cologne in a game that lasted about 90 min! I think our best game was against Halle/Leipzig (Terminal A). Even though we lost (10:13?) we played really hard and it was close most of the game. In the end we were automatically placed last (12th from 12 teams) because we didn't have enough women to satisfy the coed-rule.

The Saxy Divers did a great job organizing the tournement. I especially want to thank them for arranging to have the Rolling Stones play next door to the playing field. It was also a nice touch to invite AC/DC to open for the stones. They also managed to keep the costs down for us, in a time when tournements are getting more and more expensive. It was also really cool playing in such an international tournement. There were teams from Prague, the Netherlands, the US, and of course from all over in Germany. Mother Tongue, a team of americans and brits living in Germany, really showed how to combine great playing with great spirit. For that they deservingly won the spirit of the game prize.
