It is a long story to explain why I have a brand new bike, and if you want to hear it, I'll tell you about it, but I don't want to get into it here. The end effect is, that I have the new model of my old bike and didn't pay a penny for it, which makes up for all the stress I've had with the manufacturer. Anyway, to see what this bike can do, I decided to go on a weekend tour. Where should I go, and what should I do? Somehow I had apetite for pickles. It was clear that I had to ride to the Spreewald, the european pickle capital!
On Saturday, I left Dresden in the late morning and the sun was already shining hot. I rode through the Heide to Radeburg and then to Großrohrsdorf before turning to Pulsnitz, which marks the start of unkown territory for me. from there I took the Pulsnitz creek to Reichenbach, where I met with the good old Sächsische Städteroute. This led me to Kamenz, where I jumped up to the Froschradweg, which I took to through Wittichinau and Hoyerswerda all the way to the Spree River. It was hot and I didn't have much water (after drinking about 12 liters!), so I stopped shortly after Spremberg at a campsite on the Spremberger Resevoir. This was a bad idea, because it was crowded and loud and the lake was not very refreshing. My neighbors played loud music untill 3:30 a.m. and I didn't get much sleep.
So I took off again early on Sunday after a morning dip in the lake and had breakfast in Cottbus. Then I rode on along the Spree untill Lübbenau. I stopped and ate quite a few Spreewalder Cucumbers and Pickles. Then I headed south-west through an old strip minning region. I took time to go swimming in a lake again. Then I rode through Finsterwalde, Elsterwerda, Gröditz, and Grossenhain before arriving in Radebeul. There I met with Jenny's parents who were just comming back from a tour of Greece with their moble home.|
