After a year without an update, here we go again! The last 12 months have been dominated by our preparations for our wedding in July, as well as Jenny starting her occupation at the small animal clinic in Leipzig. I am still trying to fix some bugs on the home page, so not everything might work yet. Take a look at some pictures from our wedding. Take Care,

Update: July 8th, 2006

Yes, our homepage is back online! I will be doing some updating soon, but I will not be able to keep up the pace that I had going on in 2004. look forward to some new pictures from our vacation in New Zealand Coming soon! I guess it is also time to remove the weather report for Dresden, and I think we can all forget the Olymics in Leipzig in 2012.....
Since my last update, about a year and a half have gone by. I finished my Thesis about Extractive Destillation and got a job with Dow Chemical in Schkopau near Halle. I work as an Improvement Engineer for Synthetic Rubber production plants. Jenny has also finished her studies and is now working half time for a large animal veteranarian in Hessen (werstern Germany). We celbrated the succesful completion of her exams with a wonderful vacation in New Zealand (look for the pictures here coming soon!). Other than the breath taking nature and wonderful hikes, the biggest highlight was that Jenny said yes when I asked her to marry me in the mountains miles away from everybod else. We still play frisbee and still ride our cycles, but we definately have less time than we used to. We are planning on coming to Michigan for Christmas, so we hope to see all of our American family and friends then!

Update: December 24th, 2004

So, there has been some major changes in my scenery lately, and I thought I should let you all know what I have traded:
Of course I've traded my Dresden for Leipzig. But that actually means much more. I've traded my Elbe for the Elster and my Priesnitz for the Pleisse. My Neustadt became the Suedvorstadt and I traded my Cossebaude for Cospuden. For Radebeul I got Boehlen. For Kati and Matthias I got Nadja and Stefanie. I traded the Deckels for the Divers. For the Saechsische Schweiz I only got the Fockeberg, but If you consider that I traded just emptiness for my Jenny, I think I can consider that a fair trade. The biggest trade, however, was time for money. That is why I can't update my Home-Page anymore.

Yummy Yummy! Its the season for Beaujolais Primeur again. On the last thursday before thanksgiving this young red wine is released for vending world wide. Some people stay up untill past midnight on this Wednessday, in order to enjoy this fruity taste. From a tip from my french frisbee friend, Matthias (a.k.a. "Ach Merde!"), I obtained a bottle of this fruity red wine. I can only recommend it, especially to people who do not usually drink red wines. Live well and be happy!

Wow! Just like the old days when I was just as active in Swimming and Water-Polo as I am now in Ultimate Frisbee and Bike Tours! I have been trying to keep up with the swimming by going to the open swimming periods from 6:00-7:00 AM 2 times a week. It is not much time for a real practice, but today I finally got back to getting in the Mega-Yards (well, meters actually). In the 1h period I designed and completed a 3000m practice. Here is hoe the sets looked:
1000 m Fr 20:00 Warm Up
50 m EZ 1:00 Warm Up
- 3:00 Stretch
1500 m Fr/Br 25:00 Main Set: 5x(50Fr/50Br/50Fr + 0:10 Rest
. . . . . . . . . 50Br/50Fr/50Br + 0:10 Rest)
50 m EZ 1:00 Cool Down
200 m Kick 5:00 Kick-Set (50Fr/50Br/50Fr/50Br)
200 m EZ 5:00 Cool Down
3000 m - 60:00 Total

It sure reminds me of the good old swimming days!

I Just got Back from another action packed weekend. I took a bike tour with Matthias from Frisbee with the intention of riding to Magdeburg, which is about 270 km from Dresden. There we had great Ultimate-Frisbee Tournement with lots of sun and spirit. Come look around and see what's new!

Otherwise I am dooing fine and just chugging along on the University. To answer the question that I keep gettin: No, Jenny and I won't be coming home this summer. I have Exams until mid-August and then I start a short Internship with Polymer Engineering GmbH in Thüringen, which will last until I visit Jenny in Ireland. I am also going to start a research aid job soon, where I will be examining particle measurement methods using ultra-sound. Jenny has her two big exams coming up on the 2nd and 11th of June. She is also in the middle of a very full semester and is working at one of her schools clinics. After her semester she has another exam and then a few different internships. Her last one will be in Ireland and I will be visiting her for about a week at the end of it. Although we won't be coming home this summer, we are starting to think about the next time, which might be for Christmas or late winter/early spring 2004.

May 5th, 2003

Hello! I've been really busy in the last few weeks enjoying myself! I have applied one of the basic chemical engineering techniques to my class-plan for the semester: Optimization!!!. Through some keen planning I have managed to squeeze my 22 Credits all between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening. This leaves me plenty of time to play frisbee and go on bike tours during my last summer as a lecture-attending student!

Check out my new bike tour reports. I am trying to find the best bike way from Dresden to Leipzig. In each of the last 2 weekends I rode to Leipzig along two different routes. Next weekend I have my first Ultimate-Frisbee tournement of the summer in Karlsruhe. Pictures will follow shortly afterword!

I have put up a couple recipes and posteed my resume in English and German since I last updated. There should also be some new pictures. Additionaly, I have offered part of my web-space to the Newbie Frisbee Team in Dresden: Die Scheibenkleister. Soon I will have my home-page available completely in German!

April 12th, 2003

If you don't know me yet, my name is Carl. My family lives in Michagan in the US (the state surrounded by the great lakes, for those who don't know!). I graduated high school from Okemos HS in 1997 and went on to study Chemical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Istitute of Technology in Terre Heute, Indiana in 1997-1998 and at Michigan State Univesity in 1998-1999. I studied German in an exchange program in Freiburg Germany in 1999-2000 and ended up in Dresden at the Technical University of Dresden where I still study Chemical Enginnering.

I have recently completed an internship with Dow Chemical (Dow Central Germany) in Schkopau, where I performed a study of the kinetics of the anionic solution copolymerization of butadiene and styrene. I lived in the very friendly city of Halle (where the sun always shines and the grass is always green!) where I met many new friends and had a very good time. In my 2 week vacation after the internship, my Mom and my brother scott came for a visit and we had a nice tour of the area including, Dresden, Radebeul, Halle, Merseburg, Schkopau, Bad Lauchstdädt, and Berlin. I am now well into my second to last Semester in Dresden. I have two more semesters, and then I will have a semester write my thesis.

My favorite past time here in Germany is the participation in sports! I play ultamate frisbee with the Dresden Frisbe club called Drehst'n Deckel. During my stay in Halle I played with the Hallunken. I will play in about 6 tournements this summer and hope to keep my home page stocked full of frisbee pictures!
